According to the first legend there was a Saint (Sadhu) named Baba Balanath lived within the fort area and he told to the king that any houses built in the premises of the fort should not be taller than his house, if the shadow of any such house falling on his house wold result in the destruction of the town.

One day she went for shopping with her friends and was buying ittar(scent). Singhiya saw this and replaced  the scent with some potion in order to ensnare the princess. Then he offered the scent to princess so that she took a liking for him and marry him. However she saw his trick & when he offered her the bowl she threw it on a big stone.

As a result of the scent stone started rolling towards the wizard and cursed him. Before he die he cursed that Bhangarh would destroyed very soon and no one will be able to live within the Bhangarh Fort. Subsequent, to the curse Bhangarh fort was attacked by the Mugals. All the people in the fort including the King and the Princess Ratnavati were killed.

People believe that the ghosts in the fort are that of the Princess & that of wicked wizard. Also, local villagers believe that princess Ratnavati has taken birth somewhere else the fort and the Bhangarh city is waiting for her return an put an end to the curse.
